Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is a qualifying exam for admission to postgraduate courses (M.Tech, MS, PhD) in engineering, technology, and architecture. GATE scores are also used for recruitment in various government organizations and PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings). The exam is conducted in February every year and consists of a single paper of three hours duration, containing multiple-choice and numerical answer type questions. (Let’s see IIT JAM article)

GATE as a Engineering Entrance

The main aim of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is to test the aptitude and technical knowledge of candidates in various fields of engineering and science. The test is conducted to assess the ability of candidates to comprehend and analyze complex problems, develop logical thinking, and apply scientific concepts to solve real-world problems. The GATE score is used for admissions to postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, and science disciplines, as well as for recruitment to various government and private organizations. The test also aims to benchmark the technical knowledge of Indian engineers and scientists against global standards.
